Review on πŸƒ ALTRA Men's AL0A4VQM Olympus 4 Trail Running Shoe: Unmatched Performance for Trail Runners by Mike Weaver

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good shoes for long and hard miles, but when they fail...

Olympus were great shoes for 450 of the last 500 miles of my Pacific Northwest route. My biggest issue was the mesh upper, which turned a small tear into an irreparable, catastrophic failure in 40 miles. Am I going to enter them again? Probably not... they were good, but I didn't like them. Sun. The Lone Peaks shoe has the same light weight and breathability as the popular Altra Lone Peaks, but with a stiffer and softer sole. The Vibram outsole is also much stronger and more durable than the Lone Peaks. But the price difference is big for a shoe that lasts about the same amount of time. With a trail shoe that you change out every 400-500 miles, cost really matters. Versus Paradigms I love my Altra Paradigms for urban hiking and was hoping the Olympus would be a comparable trail shoe. The Olympus has a similar midsole and almost the same mesh upper. The thickened Vibram outsole is a real Olympus winner. However, the mesh, which is ideal for city miles, does not withstand the stresses of the race track.
