Review on πŸ”Œ Deftun MSR605 MSR606 MSR90 USB Swipe Magnetic Credit Card Reader 3 Tracks Mini Smart Card Reader by Mike Wallace

works as advertised

This is a simple product that does exactly what it says on the tin. The information on the magnetic stripe of a stolen card is entered into your computer just as you would type it on a keyboard. Works out of the box, nothing special required. If you were to enter information based on this, you would need to make sure the computer was ready to accept numbers before swiping the card. for example, positioning the cursor in a credit card number field on the screen. By default, it sends all track data at once, each with a prefix and suffix so the program can tell which is which. There is a small amount of Windows based setup software used to set up tracks for broadcast and use a prefix/suffix if required. Note that you cannot force it to send just the card number or just the card number. Name on the card if the card is not encoded in this way. Typically, a card contains multiple bits of information on the same track. Most payment processors that allow the use of a card reader would know to expect information in this format (which is the standard), and it's not quite the same as if you entered it manually by reading the front of the card. All of this is to say that you can't use it to swipe your card and fill out a checkout form at a regular online store. But if you're using it for a business payment system, and the payment system works with a card reader, then it will probably "just work" without any special settings or anything like that. I've given it a slightly lower score for accuracy because if you're not careful when swiping you'll only get data from lane 1, even having lane 3 will work fine. It either works or it doesn't and doesn't send incomplete tracks or wrong information.

Pros
  • MSR90 is a USB emulation keyboard interface that requires no drivers or software, USB is just plug and play
Cons
  • Not fancy
