Review on Quartex Quartz Movement Maximum Thickness by Antonio Liu

Bought an exact replacement Quartex Q-80 to replace the same model that has been in service for over 6 years, 1/2" thick and 15/16" tall . hand shaft length. The item arrived quickly with a very good protective cap with a threaded stem to avoid damage in transit. Decided to run this new movement with the new hands for 24 hours before installing it in the watch case; Just so it doesn't get too loud. Interestingly, the supplied hour hand, which is a press fit, was smaller and did NOT fit the hand shaft of the new movement, so the hands of the old movement were refitted and fitted nicely. Oddly enough, the new minute hand and seconds hand on the new Q-80 movement fit without a hitch, but three of the old hands have been reused for style consistency. With the brand new Duracell AA cell installed, the new Quartex Q-80 movement was placed on the back (horizontal position) and it started instantly, ran for 18 seconds and stopped. No hand interference was observed, with a minimum of 1/8 inch separation between hands. The new AA cell was removed and reinstalled and the mechanism worked for one minute and 35 seconds. and stopped again (seconds hand did not move and no "click" sound was heard) Then a new tested Duracell AA 1.55V DC alkaline battery was fitted into the new Quartex Q-80 movement and the movement was repaired set to normal (vertical position), the arrows are still set. . Then the movement worked for 15 seconds and stopped. No clicks, the second hand didn't pulsate. The battery was removed and reinstalled, this time it only worked for 37 seconds and then stopped again. rear dial, and looking down at the end of the pointer shaft, no binding or interference was visually detected. The final test was to start the mechanism using only the seconds hand. There were two stops within 60 seconds. This appears to be an infant mortality problem. Returned the Revain unit within 3 days of delivery. Replacement movement Quartex Q-80 No. 2 has already been ordered. Sage lighting and whispering low voltage spells may or may not help. Maybe just bad timing. weather error.
