We needed a night light that didn't depend on an outlet, so we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be very easy to install and works great. The new faceplate has two clips that sit where electrical cords would normally connect to an outlet or wall switch. You simply remove the old faceplate and install the new one with a standard screwdriver. You don't even have to turn off the power to do this, as you don't have to touch any wires at all. We are very happy with it. The only possible negative is if the color of this faceplate doesn't match other covers on your sockets, but in our case everything was fine.
