I replaced the WD SATA drive with a 2.5" SSD as the boot drive. However, I still had an existing 3.5" drive just below the boot drive, meaning cable routing would be an issue, especially if the back of the SSD was an inch in. This stand ensures the back of the drives will line up with whatever is present. This can be an issue with SATA cables that have a 90° load with the cable facing down. When installing a 2.5 hard drive, the connector bends slightly; Time will tell if this affects durability.
