The pillow was packed in heavy vacuum plastic and then in a cardboard box. The pillow took a while to inflate and there was a slight smell from the sealing. I could tell within a few days so I ordered a pillowcase which I washed and that's when the mild smell stopped. Some people probably wouldn't even notice. I didn't want to spend a hundred dollars on a pillow but I'm glad I did. I sleep on my side and because of the surgery I had to sleep on my back. This pillow supports my head perfectly, allowing me to lie comfortably on my back or side. I also think the pillowcase made it more durable because the pillowcase fits snugly. I'm very happy with this purchase, although I still think it's a lot of money for a pillow. I wish I had bought it sooner.
