My 1977 Bobcat 720 4 wire alternator/regulator has failed. There was definitely no controller on the shelf. I decided to change it to a single wire design and therefore less spaghetti under the cab. The alternator was an exact replacement for the 10si block. I replaced the pulley, removed the fan and put it in the small hole. Fired up an old Wisconsin 4 cylinder and charged it to 14.2. I lowered the cab and thought no more about it. It works much better now and I worry a lot less about the regulator being in a bad spot and being exposed to water. No more external regulator, no more worries.
