Indeed, this little pencil case has many pockets and compartments. So the middle or main compartment does not have inner pockets like the two outer ones, but is larger and expandable than the outer compartments. You can pack a lot of pens, pencils or markers in this main compartment, for example. It closes with a very smooth zipper with two good and strong metal sliders. The same applies to the two external zippers and a zipper for an internal mesh pocket in one of the outer compartments. The same exterior compartment has another large non-zip mesh pocket for larger items such as a stapler. The other exterior compartment has one of those elasticated pen holder slots that can hold about 5 pens with a small mesh pocket at the bottom, as well as two evenly divided mesh pockets on the opposite side. The waterproof fabric on the outside is very easy to clean with a damp cloth to remove stains or even wash with warm soapy water. The waterproof inner lining is also very helpful if one of your pens leaks ink, this prevents the ink from bleeding to the outside.
