I have two chests that I wanted to make with slow closing lids. First a large and heavy lid. After realizing that the instructions were inaccurate due to the fact that regular hinges were used instead of the ones suggested, I was able to install it and it basically works. It stays open and slowly starts to close, but accelerates quickly and still thumps (although mine is too tight). On the second chest I had to make some modifications to even mount the hinge. When I first tried to close this, the hardware holding the top bent and broke, even though this lid was MUCH lighter than the first! The hinge is now completely useless and I don't really think it will work with just one hinge. Overall you get what you pay for. The first chest I made works, but it still won't save kids' fingers when it starts to close. The second was just a complete failure! Go on - find something else!
