First I bought it as a 'refurbishment' to save some money. It arrived in its original factory box, which was never opened as Microsoft's box seals were still in place. Additionally, when I ran it and completed the installation process, the Surface app still showed a 13-month 1-year warranty! There were no signs of use on the tablet or on the packaging. Class! So I bought it to replace my trusty but outdated Surface Pro4, which I've been using daily since the month it was launched. My original was replaced by Microsoft due to some screen issues, but other than that it was a great device. So since I'm interested in tablets, the new Surface was a natural choice for me. I liked the Surface Book not only because I could take the tablet off the keyboard, but also because it had pretty decent graphics hardware on board. I actually played it with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and it works pretty well. Yes, it does get a bit warm when the fan is running at full blast, but it's perfectly playable. Overall, the build quality is excellent. Battery life was pretty good too; not as good as my SP4 when I first got it, but it's enough to get you through the day.
