Review on High-Performance HP Pavilion E248W πŸ’» 19203R 4K Processor: A Professional Choice by Anthony Notti

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fast, quiet, cheap, much faster than previous generations, limited upgrade options

This computer is incredibly fast compared to previous generations. Single-threaded on Geek Bench is 1600+ and multi-core is 8000+, leaving the 10th gen i5 far behind. The Intel Xe 730 graphics is much faster and has stronger machine learning acceleration on par with the Ryzen 5700g. The PSU is 310W, which is enough for a GeForce GTX 1650 (GTX 1660 needs 450W). I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 3 HP of the same HP model as this one. The case is better than the older model, but everything else is the same. The computer is very quiet. The keyboard and mouse are cheap, I sold them with my old PC, but they're good if you don't know what good keyboards and mice are. HP, Dell, and other PC makers run a profit system that's not really a rip off, but it's deceptive, with RAM they've only thrown in an 8GB stick of RAM. DDR RAM requires 2 sticks to double the data rate. As a result, the processor runs very slowly. You need to buy another suitable RAM stick. HP lists the memory as 2933MHz DDR4. The native RAM speed for the i5-11400 is 3200MHz and I had a 3200MHz CL22 stick. You want to get 1Rx16GB DDR4 CL22 RAM. This one has 2 chips, but it shouldn't matter if it has 4 chips, it's important that all the chips are on the same side of the PCB (ie peer to peer) and they're all on desktops, so just take it the cheapest with CL22. ; I paid $35 so it's not a rip off but if you don't know then it's a bit of a mess but you get it cheaper so whatever. The worst thing about this computer is that all USB 3.0+ ports are on the front and only one HDMI out and one VGA out. It has a PCIe 1x and a PCIe 16x Gen 4. The USB-C port on the front doesn't support HDMI or DisplayPort, it's data only, but it's very hard to figure out. I will not upgrade the computer, then this computer is very important. You can add an additional 3.5 inch hard drive. So if you add an extra stick of RAM and upgrade your keyboard and mouse, this computer is really good. Or none of these issues are important to you.
