I cracked. I bought a Pertronix igniter for my old Prestolite dealer and this thing worked fine until I noticed the springs in it were so worn they were coming back from their promotion. That's why I ordered this paper pulp. I installed it and the boot ran like crap. He spat, coughed, hiccuped, and fired backwards through the carburetor. Big. I figured it was about time so I took everything apart, found the OT and put it back together. Because the boat was so old, I assumed it was something else. Starter burned out when trying to start. I bought a new starter and today I put everything back together and decided to just see if the block is good before I burn the other starter. I found a website that showed me how to check the following: 1. Connect the jumper wire from the ignition board to the battery ground.2. Connect the red wire from the igniter to the positive battery post along with the red wire from the voltmeter.3. Connect the black wire from the igniter to the black wire on the voltmeter.4. Move or rotate the magnet sleeve in front of the ignition module, the voltmeter should cycle from battery voltage to 0 volts and back. What do you know! I got readings between 8.5 and 0 volts at random times over 360 degrees on a BRAND NEW 12 volt marine battery. So I did the same test with the 1st Pertronix I bought for a Prestolite dealer. 12.53 - 0.8 times 360 degrees. The first was ok. The Ignitor II on this device is a piece of junk. I tested each block multiple times just to make sure it wasn't me. After seeing this error I sent back the Flame Thrower II coil and Pertronix spark plug wires. I won't risk being in the middle of a lake with details I can't trust. Pertronix - PLEASE CHECK YOUR PRODUCT!
