Definitely increases reader longevity!
If you currently clean card readers with a folded piece of paper soaked in rubbing alcohol, they become your best friend. I recommend weekly cleaning to ensure the longevity of the reader. You can see the dirt coming off the reader and being applied to the card. There are waffle nubs on the card to ensure thorough cleaning of the magnetic head.
