I have installed two of these devices in cars that are rarely driven. If they sit long enough, the battery charge will drop to the point where the car won't start. Then you have to start it. If this happens enough times, the battery will be destroyed and you'll have to shell out for a new one. These "Maintenance Batteries" keep batteries fully charged without overcharging or damaging them. There are some inconveniences of plugging an extension cord into the device and then unplugging it before the car starts, but the car always starts, the clock and radio settings are saved, and you don't have to change car batteries as often. I've been using one of these Schumacher machines for about eight years with no problems. They're pretty easy to install, work well, and last a long time. What else can you ask?
