Merrell has been around for a long time and while I've never owned a pair of their shoes I associated the brand with them Quality and performance, and I was partly right. Build quality is excellent, meaning materials and finishing are top-notch. I have tested all of these boots and can wash them down with little or no sign of wear or damage. performance.fur. By performance I mean they do what you would expect them to. For myself I bought 8 inch zippered boots so I don't have to bend down to tie them. I'm well into my 50's and not as agile as I was when I was a young Marine who laced my boots instead of lacing them every time. period (but in the 80's these zippers were laced up in the front and not built into the boot). It takes a strong shoehorn and prayer to wear these boots with just the zip open and velcro and this is so disappointing as I thought Merrell had an idea of what tac boots are and how to use them. Zipper issue aside, boots fit as expected, hardly need breaking in (soft and comfortable), nice looks, good tread design, quiet, ignoring my swearing while putting them on, don't know if I would buy them again, maybe it was not for the flash to annoy me.
