I've had this on my DRZ400sm for almost a year now and it works great. I use it to charge my Samsung Note 9. Once I forgot to put on the "waterproof" case when washing my bike. I've just removed the zip ties holding it and turned it upside down to let it dry before using it again, that was 4 months ago and it's still working. I've read several reviews of this device leading to the batteries dying. Of course it will with time. I switched to the ignition key, specifically the daytime running light circuit. I switched to LED lighting so I have some spare amps to play with and I don't use the SAE connector to charge the battery. The law of the watt is: Power (in watts) = voltage (in volts) x current (in amperes). So if this device is delivering 3.5 amps at 5 volts, it will draw about 1.5 amps at 12 volts. Feel free to check my math. And before anyone goes crazy. Yes, there is feedback from the electronics, but let's face it. This is irrelevant. So if you don't need to use an SAE plug to charge your battery, or charge your phone when the key is off, simply plug it into a switched circuit and your battery will never run out. Plus if it drains your battery as fast as some say you need a new battery.
