Excellent budget projector with all the bells and whistles

The 3Stone A5 4500 Lux Portable Cinema Projector is a great projector with all the bells and whistles without spending a fortune. We needed a reasonably priced projector that could be taken on family holidays, used at Covid-friendly impromptu driveway parties and the occasional home business meeting. We found all of that at 3Stone. There are many ways to connect to this projector including traditional HDMI, USB and screen mirroring from your phone or computer. With a bit of effort, I was able to connect my phone and stream directly from several popular streaming services and then connect to our home WiFi with ease. I recommend going ahead and connecting to your wifi to download the latest firmware right out of the box. Connecting HDMI to a DVD player as well as Roku was easy. As a test of this powerful little projector, we streamed the Super Bowl through our direct-connected Roku. We projected across the room and enjoyed the football and halftime fun. While the screen was a bit washed out in bright room lighting, the image was bright enough and very pleasing when the room was dimly lit. It took a bit of tweaking to get the color set as the default had issues with some red oversaturation. The test confirmed that the projector is ideal for occasional overnight stays or films in the driveway. We also tested the projection of a PowerPoint presentation, whereby the projector delivered excellent results. While it does an excellent job with movies and TV shows, the slides and images are very sharp and easy to read. As mentioned, we'll be using it for casual home office meetings and business trips. Anyone considering this projector should keep in mind that this is a budget projector. You probably won't want to use this projector in a fully sunlit room. Keystone distortion is also mechanical compared to digital and has a limited range. Therefore, the projector works best when it is not projecting from a table onto a screen at an acute angle. It is ideal to have a projector with a more perpendicular angle. Realizing that this is a budget-friendly, feature-packed projector, the only real complaint is that the lens cap is a little loose and falls off easily. However, this does not guarantee star docking.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
