Review on Uflex X35 Mounting Bezel: Secure 20° Mounting in Sleek Black Design by Thong Lopez

I ordered a steering kit for my boat. The kit includes a Uflex X34 mounting kit (of the same brand). The problem was that the X34 positions the steering wheel directly towards me and I wanted the steering wheel to tilt up a bit. The instructions that came with the kit even included diagrams for mounting the X34 (straight at a 90 degree angle) and mounting that X35 hardware (at a 20 degree angle). You would think they would be compatible. After all, the instructions describe how to mount both X34 and X35 with the same steering set. But they are NOT compatible with each other. For starters, the center hole is too small. Not by much, but it's about 1/4 inch smaller so the swivel steering gear can't fit through the center hole without filing it quite a bit. Holes don't match. They don't match at all. Obviously a hole can match, but there are always two holes that don't match. Therefore, you need to drill two additional holes in the metal bracket. The problem is that you removed enough metal where it would be much weaker, so you'd have to weld a metal plate to it to give it the strength it needs. Of course, it seems that X34 and X35, manufactured by the same company and described in the same manual, are compatible with each other. But that's not the case. The X34 is perfect for the steering kit. This 20 degree kit will not fit at all without major modifications.
