Nice grille! The size represents the widest part of the base (front legs). The depth is 11 inches, that's steel poles for logs. First I ordered 21 inch, but then got 24 inch. See photo. 21" left, 24" right. fit in your chimney. The 24 inch grate has a hard time holding 3 logs, especially when you start a fire and move hot logs around. After several dozen firings, it holds up well, doesn't sag on the base. I like having a grate to keep the hot coals on the logs. Mine came with a little wobble as the legs weren't perfectly level, maybe 1/2 inch. The gap under the base is 3-1/2 inches, which was more than I liked, so I stuck a metal blade into the sander and removed about an inch from each leg. This keeps the gas line flame closer to the logs and lowers the overall fire in my small fireplace. Oh, and removed the rock star. 4 for rocking and lack of specific manufacturer sizing information. I had to pay shipping to return the first one. Otherwise a great product for the price.
