My old Mighty Mouse the 1. Love this item but it is no longer for sale. Its successor, Mighty Mouse 2, is not supported on older Mac operating systems like the one I'm using (Snow Leopard 10.6.8, WindowsXP Mac equivalent). To my knowledge, nobody but Apple offers anything similar to Apple's Touch Surface that I really like. Clicking scroll wheels, arrays of buttons? Pooh. However, I have to live with the reality, so I decided to try something cheap just to see if any of them work. This wireless TechNet mouse seemed as good a place to start as any. Since my MM1 runs out of batteries once a week (thank god there are rechargeable ones), battery life played a big part in my choice of a backup mouse. He claims to be over a year old. It sounds promising. At least I don't need a special driver, although it's a yellow flag for a Mac whose control panel doesn't support these mechanical wheel mice. How will my operating system handle this? Today has come. After I put an AA battery (not included) in the hole, and then plugged a small USB FOB thingy into an available USB port, a window popped up telling me to immediately click the sign on the right next to the left SHIFT key. . Hm? "He thinks I only have a keyboard connected, no mouse!" Hit 1. I agreed to toggle and hit the Z key, got a curt reply "this isn't a keyboard that I know of" and the window closed. Still, the cursor moved at breakneck speed across the screen in response to the mouse movement. I then played around with the mouse settings and lowered the maximum tracking speed that the Mighty Mouse uses to satisfy my satisfaction. Now the mouse was slower, although the movement is quite jerky, it's difficult to position the cursor accurately like I can with MM1. I opened the image and minimized the window so I can scroll left/right up/down. Up/down worked, but left/right didn't. Also, I only heard the sounds of a mechanical click indicating that the left wheel button was working, but there was no such click for the right click. I've tried Maccy stuff like holding down Option or Command to scroll left/right to work, but no. Will not work. The right button and left/right scrolling do not work. Stroke 2. Then I noticed he was quite small. One of the reasons I bought this mouse and not some others was because the TechNet mouse's advertised length was slightly longer than the MM1. no Squeezing them together, I can see that TechNet is about 0.2 inches shorter than MM1. You lied. Also, at about 1.5 inches tall, it's about three times taller than the MM1, although I was aware of that. Compared to MM1, I feel like I'm holding a softball. Strike 3. That doesn't mean geeks won't like it. It's just that for a Mac user running a very old macOS (I know, I know.) it's just not intended. I might just have to take the MM1 apart and see if I can glue it together with the rubber to get a few extra miles.
