After testing a dozen of these portable monitors, I've come to the conclusion that most of them are pretty much the same as everyone else. The technology is tried and tested and apart from changes in resolution and slight differences in build quality they are basically indistinguishable from one another. However, in only one respect does the SMTIOTS monitor solve a problem I've been complaining about for ages. Most portable monitors allow you to control the menu with a toggle switch mounted on the side of the monitor above or below the HDMI and USB ports. This is a terrible setup as these rockers are invariably made of hard plastic that will cut into your fingertip if you manipulate it. I hate them. In every review I write I protest the design of this switch. There is no such switch in the SMTIOTS monitor. Instead, the monitor controls are simple buttons located on the bottom front of the monitor. You can navigate the menus with your finger or thumb, saving you the pain of pricking your finger on a sharp piece of plastic. It's a simple design choice, but I really appreciate it. If only other brands did the same.
