Review on Deluxe Adjustable Garment Rack by Whitmor - Rolling Clothes Organizer in Black and Chrome by Matthew Seamster

Poor design, not worth the retail price

I needed to install a moving backdrop for video conferencing so I bought this clothing rack on sale for about $10. The assembly is quite easy. However, this is the shittiest household item I've ever bought and it's not even a quality control issue. DESIGN is just SO BAD. Basically, all components are at right angles to each other and all plastic seats are very flat, so that the entire shelf can be deformed extremely easily with the least amount of effort. Remember elementary school geometry. For example, the 4 tubes that make up the base go into very shallow grooves in the side pieces, and the gentlest tap on a corner can cause the side pieces to deform, and either the tube on the opposite side will fall out (rectangle -> trapezoid ) or all 4 dissolve (rectangle -> parallelogram). The two horizontal extensions cannot support their own weight and remain level, allowing them to sag. The two posts have been fine so far because I hammered them into the seats, but the top corner pieces aren't holding the center horizontal piece in place. If I'm not careful, the top horizontal part will fall off. For my purposes, this stand is fine. I just throw a thick curtain over it and leave it alone. However, I can't imagine sliding hangers on this hanger without deforming and breaking. At a regular retail price of $25, I expected Whitmor to offer a product that wouldn't fall apart with normal use.
