I bought this a few years ago (particularly in 2017) and have rarely used it in subsequent years, usually only plugged in when I needed to read the drive away from another system on my main PC without opening the case, connecting power and SATA etc. I recently had to use it again only to find that although Windows recognized the drive install location, the drive was not connected. I thought it might be an issue with the drive itself, so I tried three other known good drives (a 3.5 and a 2.5 HDD and a 2.5 SSD) and encountered each of them the same problem. I've also tried a different USB cable, and while I didn't have an alternative compatible power supply, I checked the output voltage and it's delivering the expected 12V. Apparently, a component (or components) on the interface board itself has failed and the whack. building, although it sat on my table without electricity for almost a year. I ended up buying another USB to SATA adapter which has worked fine so far (and was cheaper than originally). Save yourself the headache and some money and buy another product.
