Excellent hold, even without a clamp.

These pedals are great because they provide excellent grip even when the clip side is not used. They are very high quality, much better than the ones that came on my expensive hybrid bike. The cleats on the non-clipper side provide such strong traction that I rarely use cleat mount cycling shoes.
