Appears like an original part. The retaining pin that holds the cable in place is a nail-shaped plunger that expands as it is inserted. You can tuck the thin edge of the blade underneath to pull it out, or just pull it out all the way by pulling with pliers. In my case it didn't damage the mounting pin which was simply reinserted correctly through the cable on the new cover. Bingo! No more fuel cap check alerts or engine check alerts.
