Review on Canon EOS SLR Camera Lens EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM by John Lim ᠌

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I am not satisfied with the product, there are no positive qualities.

I almost didn't buy it. Only use it on the road, when you can't switch lenses and still need a lot of flexibility. The small (relative) size also adds to the practicality and efficiency. Everything else is just wrong. It's odd that "L" is on such a terrible lens. Keep in mind that the rest of my lenses are "L," as in "fixes," as well. The worst letter "L" I have in my bag.

Pros
  • Small form factor, low weight, abundant focal length options, rapid autofocus, built-in stabilization, solid construction (no backlash)
Cons
  • Big distortion; very poor work out in backlight; strong lathering on an open hole. Bad for landscape photography because it lets in too much ambient light. There is significant distortion when shooting architecture with a 24 mm lens. Not a portrait lens; it "soaps" extremely heavily on a cutout. The stabilizer is far less effective than the 70-200 2.8 L II. The noise level is also quite high.
