I change my air filters according to the fan timers in my thermostats and since I buy filters in bulk I haven't bought one in a long time. Maybe it's because 3M is busy making masks, but I was surprised to see the cost of my regular 3M Filtrete filters skyrocket. With that in mind, it's time to find an alternative. While the Nordic Pure 16x25x1 MERV 12 AC Furnace Pleated Air Filter (Box of 6) isn't as good as the filters I'm used to, they're still well made. The filter frame, despite the fact that it is made of cardboard, does not bend and does not collapse under a large negative load. Although filter sizes are standard, I've found that frame sizes have some variation depending on the manufacturer. Nordic Pure is a bit smaller than I'm used to in this regard, but I think everyone should still use a double to seal the sides. What's the point of having a good filter if you just want to pick up dirt all around the perimeter, right? As for the filter, I am satisfied with its performance. I'm used to 2200-2400 MPR but in this case I went lower. Filtration performance is slightly less, but with the benefit of flow rate (which helps with a small block this side of the house). "Low" power is a relative statement. The filters are still way better than any bass to midrange filters you can buy at the hardware store.
