Excellent product for joining metal to ceramic

This product is perfect for my application. I had to attach a metal frame to the back of the ceramic tile to hang the tile on the wall. I used the JB Weld 8265S according to the instructions on the box and it worked very well. Since this product has a tensile strength guarantee of 3960psi and my tile weighs 8 ounces, I think this may have been an overstatement. (By my estimation each side of the wire was covered with about 0.5 square inch of mixture to a depth of about 1/8 inch). This epoxy is the recommended product for bonding metal to ceramic. I created a small 1/4 inch layer. Loop gauge at each end of the wire to increase the connection area. It is important to clean both surfaces with acetone or alcohol to remove any grease. The metal needs to be sanded with a file to create a rough surface. The ceramic on the back was unglazed and therefore already rough and porous. The two components of the product must be mixed very carefully in a volume ratio of 1:1. Full bonding takes 24 hours. It should be noted that the material dries to a dark gray color and is not suitable where aesthetic considerations are important. Because the wire and epoxy were on the back of the tile, this wasn't a problem for this application. There are two very helpful websites for finding the right adhesive for a variety of applications. You can find the first one by searching for this to that glue. There are recommendations based on the two materials to be joined. Another great resource is the one-page powerpoint presentation on the MIT website, which you can download as a PDF. Find it by searching for MIT D-Lab_Learn-It_Adhesives. In addition, JB Weld has a very helpful customer service to help you choose among the many products.
