I have bought these twice and both times they have been of much better quality than previous alligator clips I have bought at similar prices. They are stronger and better aligned, only one has a significantly misaligned jaw and another has a slightly misaligned jaw. 22/24 is perfect. 2 offsets are too small to see in the first photo as they are on the left edge and the camera is looking at them at a slight angle. They also hold up well when soldered. I don't have any crimpers and I'm not even sure what kind of crimper to buy for them. I've soldered them every time, usually with my soldering iron set at 750F/400C or higher since I use lead free .993 Sn .007 Cu solder and I haven't seen any discoloration yet. The thickest wire I've used them with was 10 AWG. It fits easily, but I'm not sure it fits easily enough to be sure 8 AWG wire will suffice. I'd probably like heavier alligator clips if I want to use 8 AWG wire.
