My son is 18 months old and wears 2T or 3T in most things and currently wears size 6 shoes. He still has quite a bit of baby swelling on his feet and ankles, and many socks are too tight around his ankles. He still has a red mark on an ankle from the socks he wore over a week ago (also 2T-3T socks so not because they were too small). Yes, they're skinny and don't have grippy tips for beginner runners, but he's been running for 6 months and is a pro so that's not a problem. These socks won't keep a piglet warm on a cold winter night, but they're perfect for wearing on a warm night if he doesn't take them off for about 2.7 minutes. Everyone has different experiences and needs and fits our situation with swollen ankles very well.
