I do not have equipment that can accurately test the ESD properties of this mat, but I can confirm the following facts based on years of experience. Experience with all types of (usually old, dirty, and battered) anti-static mats: 1. This mat is made of a heavy material that has the right balance of stiffness and flexibility.2. The underside (when clean) has a decent amount of natural "stickiness" so it won't shift around on a table or desktop.3. The top has a nice texture that seems to minimize the clasps' tendency to slip and twist a bit. Whether the texture makes cleaning difficult remains to be seen. However, I bought a used rug and it looks brand new so my first impression was that it can be cleaned cheaply.4. Speaking of the upper, blue is a really nice shade of blue. Color isn't strictly necessary for the kind of technical work that goes on a rug like this, but if I had to stare at a shade of blue for hours, this is the one I would go for. I LOVE the fact that this particular brand of carpet has low VOC levels. It doesn't smell like PVC (or other carcinogenic fumes that others give off).6. Admittedly, the selling price of these rugs is a bit high, but I have a feeling that this is one of those cases where the price-performance ratio is still very good. As long as this company continues to make this product, I don't think I will ever buy another (similar) product from another manufacturer. In my experience with work and hobby equipment, you get what you pay for and (in most cases) the only thing you get with cheap equipment is a lifetime supply of mud. I have a feeling this rug is destined to become one of my most prized possessions.
