Easy installation. Plug one into my mid 2010 Mac Pro running OSX El Capitan 10.11.6. Using the native USB 2.0 port, it took 22:36 (mm:ss) to copy a 42.6GB video file to my external hard drive, a WD Elements 4TB. Connected to this USB 3.0 port, copying the same 42.6 gigabyte file took 6:58. The speed increase, while not as big as expected, was significant and also allows me to stream 4k video files (ProRes 422) directly from a WD external hard drive and play them without frame drop or stuttering. I couldn't do it through the USB 2.0 ports because the data transfer wasn't fast enough. First, my WD Elements drive was not recognized through the HighPoint 3.0 ports (but worked fine with USB 2.0 ports). It turned on but didn't show up as a drive on the computer. To fix this issue, I turned off and restarted my computer by connecting the WD drive to the HighPoint USB 3.0. It then recognized the drive and from then on the drive showed up when I plugged it in. No driver required.
