I replaced the fluorescent lamp that the previous owner installed above the sink. The previous owner screwed the ends of the chipboard into the floor - not good. So I decided to add a nice melamine board under the cabinets. This light has a nice soft white glow and disappears when turned off. The translucent plastic strip is easy to remove with your fingers when needed and reattach with the U-edge up and the straight edge down. The device opens by itself. By pressing the case at three points (left, center, right) where there are small protrusions, it opens like a car hood, but upside down. To put it back together I first tried squeezing it with my hand but that was too hard so I just took a paint stirrer and placed it perpendicular to the lip where it needed to be inserted and then lightly my palm on that Tapped the end of the bar - this helped set the edge onto the retaining tab - just be careful not to snag the wires - I used a plastic Chik-Fil-A straw to push the wires through and hold them while I close the hood all the way with the stir stick trick. The straw folds up and can be easily removed. I also had to drill a new zip tie on the back of the unit as it only had 3 knockout holes (left, center, right) but I needed the center left cable port. However, he drilled fairly easily, just using the center drill and then drilling from small to large in about six steps. All in all, this is a very good flashlight. The quality is good, much brighter than fluorescent. Maybe with a lower light output than fluorescent, but I think it looks better this way.
