I wanted a glass teapot with minimal contact with plastic. I bought this kettle in December 2017. I loved the fact that the water tasted so clean, boiled in a few minutes and clean up was easy. I only boil water that has been filtered by Zerowater. I had no deposits. Until May 2018, when the water boils, the lid opens and I only have to close it manually. One day I turned on the kettle but left. The water continued to boil until everything had evaporated. The next time I tried to use it the kettle would not turn on until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Then this morning I noticed that the lid wouldn't stay closed even if I closed it manually. It looks like the top gray ring on either side of the handle has snapped there. I take good care of my kitchen appliances and love to keep them looking new so I'm a bit disappointed. I have other Breville products and found them to be very good quality so I bought a Breville electric kettle. I have contacted Breville and they will send me a replacement within the warranty period. I hope the new one lasts longer and problems like this don't happen again.
