Review on DROK Accuracy 0 33 00V 0 999 9MA 3 000A Voltmeter by Jermaine Rhodes

Revainrating 3 out of 5

This meter must not exceed 3 amps or, according to DROK, it will burn out.

DROK panel meters have historically been reliable and accurate but this 0-3 amp meter DROK says cannot exceed 3 amps as it will most likely burn out. Making such a fragile meter is poor engineering because in many situations it is difficult to control the current. The internal circuit must ALWAYS be protected against overcurrents of at least 3 times the rated current and then by an external fuse or the 3 times overheat protection (user supplied). I suggest limiting this meter to applications of 999.9 milliamps (and below). So if you see the display toggle to #,### amps, that's your overcurrent warning. Or use a 3 amp fast blow fuse in the circuit (which is a big problem in many applications). It is too difficult to cut holes and install these gauges for them to burn out due to momentary inrush currents or unusually high load conditions. Instead, I order a 0-100V/0-100A meter, which has so much more capacity than I need that it should be crashproof, but it's only 3 digits, not 4. I like the wide voltage range the meter supplies, since 5V only panel meters are a pain.
