Some of my orchids do not thrive when the relative humidity falls below 30%. So I made an orchidarium out of a used aquarium. Orchid pots sit on inverted recycled plastic containers that stand about 3 inches deep. A cupcake fan provides air circulation, and most of the top of the orchidarium is covered with translucent acrylic panels. This arrangement did not significantly increase the relative humidity in the orchids. The solution was to add a small water pump. I placed the pump in the center of a discarded plastic strawberry container and wrapped the pump in polyester batting to act as a filter. I placed this device underwater on the left side of the tank and used the pump hose to drain the water from the right side of the tank. I ended up with water splashes from the hose on the inside of the right glass. This brought the relative humidity to about 64%. Mission accomplished!
