EDIT: after 2 weeks of use: MacBook is very slow, ran diagnostics and found the following error - happened a week after the return deadline, but chatted online with Amazon for a few minutes and sent back the goods for a refund, original hard drive is available again, works perfectly. The screwdrivers worked well - swapping drives took minutes, I used a copy cloner, not a time machine for backups. I've been using it for several days, there are no heating problems, no starting problems, everything is fine. The read/write speeds are significantly improved over the standard version and I have a lot more storage space. So far so good, I would recommend to anyone happy with the performance but need more disk space. The external hard drive enclosure feels solid and has good transfer speeds over Thunderbolt (see 3rd image). The 1st image is a new 960GB SSD, the 2nd image is an original 500GB SSD, and the 3rd image is a 500GB SSD in an external enclosure over Thunderbolt. If you are using an old SSD as Bootcamp external hard drive, you need to install Bootcamp on the drive first if it is internal, otherwise it will not install/update.
