Review on πŸš€ Unleash Untamed Power with Vengeance Performance Memory Kit by Chad Moser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than expected: Inexpensive and fully satisfactory

I replaced the OEM RAM in my ASUS U32U-ES21 laptop (originally with 4GB RAM) with a Corsair ValueSelect 8GB RAM kit. 4GB SO-DIMM but that wouldn't save me that much money and I prefer to use the appropriate memory modules in my machines when possible. I could also pay a half times more for another kit that advertises that it was specifically designed for the ASUS U series and the like, but since I paid less than five hundred dollars for the U32U when it was new, Corsair's ValueSelect -Option Conveniently, the price seemed worth trying. The Corsair box was clearly labeled and easy to open. I don't normally comment on packaging in product reviews, but it seems appropriate here: The manufacturer's packaging for this upgrade kit is designed so that you don't have to swing sharp objects to remove new memory modules. You don't have to worry about the sticky label landing on your fingers and transferring it to the valuable cargo inside. A small round sticker on top of the box kept it closed; I just ripped off that whole part of the box and drove into town. Inside, the memory modules were packaged in a small, two-piece plastic sleeve that was easily removed with the push of a finger, while keeping the modules inside until I was ready to use them. , golden pins, a bunch of black chips. They feel nice and stiff with just enough flexibility to help them get in and out. They're definitely quite durable (they've certainly withstood the abuse during installation). I don't particularly like the huge sticker that covers the entire front of each module, but it doesn't seem to affect performance in any way. so I'm not deducting a star. Maybe if I could subtract a quarter star I would, but that's mostly a matter of taste. From what I understand it may actually serve a purpose (maybe it's glued on with some cooling paste or something?). Installation was an issue, but that's not Corsair's fault - it's a function of the clamps that the modules are in my particular machine. The installation process depends on the design of your particular computer. Of course, if one or more modules are installed incorrectly, the machine won't boot and you'll have to remove the cover and do some more fiddling. After the modules were properly installed (after much grumbling, dramatic sighs, and gnashing of teeth), my old laptop, which had been huffing before, booted up immediately. I was expecting a performance boost, but was actually quite surprised at how much performance boost I got. The U32U-ES21 was never intended to be a powerful device, but now it's much, much faster and more fun. MS Office applications are displayed immediately; Chrome works like . well, if not a cheetah, then at least a pretty lively pony; Even a simultaneous session of Photoshop, Pidgin and multiple Chrome windows runs smoothly. Guess I'll have to find a new window during the day to make a cup of tea; I don't even remotely have time to do this while Photoshop starts. Meanwhile, The Sims 2 and Sims 3 are significantly less slow, if not lightning fast. In short, and perhaps quite obviously, adding 8 gigabytes of shiny new RAM isn't going to turn your lazy old work laptop into a sparkling gaming host. It might make you feel like you've got a whole new, much springier mule anyway - and in In my case I got a much more upbeat new mule than I expected which is really nice. fifty dollars (at the time of purchase) with Prime Fast Shipping, I am very satisfied. To be honest, one of my first "real" jobs was at the ASUS Support Center; Corsair was one of the RAM brands that we regularly recommended for reliability based on our experience of bundling different motherboards etc that we had to assemble ourselves so we knew what our subscribers were facing. This certainly influenced my purchase decision. However, I long ago retired from the hardware support world (although I still do some technically oriented work) and paid Revain full price for this upgrade kit.
