Although I used Nikon's consumer DSLRs (like the N8008) I didn't switch to digital until I was able to buy a D80 in 2006, having reused most of my existing lenses . The D80 was great, but I was missing two things - a great sensor with a much higher ISO equivalent sensitivity (and the resolution that goes with it) and an 18-55mm zoom for everyday indoor and close-up use. I had a 55-200 DX telephoto lens, but not a wide-angle equivalent. In my research I've found the D3300 performs extremely well as an ideal kit with a great 18-55 DX that would give me a lot more freedom of movement. . I like the lightness and ease of use of the D3300. In addition to the D80, I continue to be amazed by the battery life, among other things. Although I've been an SLR photographer since I was young (that was around 1955) I'm not that keen on mastering photography and the D80 was already smarter than me. In fact, the Nikon SB-600 flash is smarter than me. I have taken Nikon Class courses several times, but I am not a professional photographer to master the camera. The D3300 opened up new possibilities in photography for me. First, the automatic settings work great and I've learned to rely on them. Second, instead of an impenetrable printed manual, there's an incredible amount of documentation built into the camera, which is very useful. I know enough to accept help, and having it on hand as part of the camera is priceless. While the camera is simplified in some ways, particularly in terms of the lenses it works best with, I haven't found any major limitations for me. I don't need the extra features of the higher-end D3xxx models like WiFi and better video recording. But I confirm that the D3300's reviews and recommendations as a DSLR that goes beyond point and shoot are accurate. I suspect that the current price cuts indicate the possibility of new models. This can also be a great opportunity for a profitable hunt with a proven camera.
