Review on πŸš— Enhance Your 2011-Up Dodge Journey with Metra 99-6520B Dash Kit for Factory 4.3-Inch Screen Retention in Matte Black by Ralph Banks

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Will fit double din kit but will not match brand

I had it fitted at a certified auto repair shop through my dealer and they did a great job. Pros: + Retains factory climate control, hazards, electronic stability control, etc., you won't lose any factory features + Check out the 4.3-inch screen, red and black, and it looks stock. It is very similar to the old UI. User Interface and Controls. + Fasteners fit very well, but they are plastic and screws can break them. Don't overtighten! + Double DIN head unit fits perfectly (Pioneer AVH-4100NEX, great device) climate control, hazards, stability control, etc. The touch controls for driver and passenger are wonky (see YouTube link: https://youtu.be/yDbY -xGJrj4) You jump when you hold to scroll You're looking at the hardware controls, which are now hard to reach because they're where the deep shaft in front of the switch is. - As mentioned above, the hardware controls are hard to get to as they are now located where the deep well used to be. - The fairing surrounding the main unit is all black, breaking the factory silver fairing line. Painting or silver trim complete the look. Because of the way the B-pillar is set up, the only place for the factory aftermarket unit is where the factory air conditioning is installed, meaning you have to look down to see the screen. It's not perfect, but it's not Metra's fault. The climate controls are held on by clips only (like almost all factory trims on the car). This isn't usually a problem, but since you have to press the buttons, you can press too hard and move the device. Lifting the panel on the center console and shifter and putting it back is NOT easy as you have to slide the climate control not only but at the same time to the front of the car where very little space can be seen you will need the serial number of the Axxess main unit ( behind the overlay) before they can help you. If you have a dealer install it, you'll have to rip off the trim to find it. Not difficult, but researching how to remove and access the pickguard takes time (save: buy a good quality nylon pickguard removal kit from Revain for $15-20, save yourself a ton of frustration and get one Set of torx bits that you will need too ).- There are no dials in the climate control, just knobs. Pressing and holding will not move the slider more than one position. - Disconnecting and reconnecting the Axxess device in my remote Max A/C button. Thankfully it's winter now, but I'm working with support to resolve this issue. The buttons are soft but work. Overall, as much as I miss the great factory climate control, I do NOT miss the factory head unit and terrible amp. My tunes are now crisp, crisp, and with solid bass (thanks in part to the fact that I've replaced the old factory speakers [a really shameful piece of junk] with an Infinity reference bar and Infinity Primus 6x9 speakers). And thanks to the Pioneer AVH-4100NEX, I have Apple CarPlay (or Android Auto), which makes driving and interacting with my iPhone (or Android) much easier and safer. I also wish the fairing was pre-painted to match the silver fairing over the main unit and that the knobs were hard plastic with a flywheel rather than soft. However, for an aftermarket kit, it does the job.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Available in white only
