I bought this trimmer after trying to find a product that was well built above average. The reviews were good. Val is a good brand. This is a lithium-ion battery with long battery life. You also get a lot of attachments, which makes the trimmer quite versatile. At first glance, the trimmer feels good. It feels like a premium consumer product as it should be. If used, it is a reasonable product. The design choice is logical, however I prefer the adjustable style versions rather than changing attachments. I usually give it a 4 out of 5. I think it's well built and worth the price. I think most users will prefer a few alternative design options for the sake of simplicity. At least it would be nice if the clues were colored. Rummaging through your bag looking for a specific size is a hassle. Also, there is nothing to hold or organize the accessories. Even many of the cheapest trimmers come with storage solutions. Strange feature. Well I've had the same problem as many others with this one (and it's a family of products). Eventually it just caught fire and won't go out. This seems to be a common problem with the device due to a design flaw. This renders the product completely unusable. Initially I thought the trimmer was buggy and had a critical flaw in its design. I even considered it as such with two stars and a warning. However, I had a hypothesis that turned out to be true. This device has a bizarre design flaw. Luckily it's not permanent, but people might think it is without knowing it. I'm sure many of them have been returned as defective and there are many low star reviews because of this defect. The device does not have a mechanical control in the classic sense. This is a very heavy circuit board and in turn is powered by circuitry to operate. It controls on/off, charging and LED. One of the downsides of some circuits is that they won't work properly if the voltage goes above or below specification. When this trimmer runs out of battery, the on/off function becomes weird. It stays on or off and you can't control it with the button. You must connect the charger to prevent the trimmer from behaving strangely. The charger acts as an additional off switch that is reliable. That's why I want to warn you. The trimmer works well when it's charged, but when the battery dies it can start behaving strangely. In this case, fortunately, the trimmer is not damaged, but you need to connect the charger and charge the battery. Once the voltage is restored, the trimmer will operate normally again.
