I have a small notebook that I use when I go to the local library. It's a well designed lock that prevents someone from secretly taking my laptop and leaving with it without being seen. I do not recommend leaving a locked device alone or out of sight of others for long periods of time. The cable looks like it could easily be cut with scissors. And others report that some Kensington T-locks can be pulled out of their slots with sufficient force. The price of this lock listed by Kensington on their website is $50, but you can usually find it a lot cheaper and it doesn't really cost more than $25. .
