Review on ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Air King 9723 Box Fan: Powerful 20-Inch 3-Speed Cooling Solution in White by Deepa Hoover

Revainrating 3 out of 5

At least I finally got it working

Well finally the fan started working. It came with three issues of varying severity, but luckily I have the tools and am reasonably comfortable. 1) The power plug is tucked under the handle, probably to save a bit of effort tying it to the handle. SOLUTION: A vise and small pry bar allowed me to bend the chassis enough to remove the connector without breaking the handle (it's hard to imagine how they managed to clamp it down; I suspect they did the handle installed over the connector) 2) The blade assembly is not connected to the motor shaft (actually it was dangling inside the fan housing) SOLUTION Step 1: Remove the guard to access the motor BUT problem 3) Six self tapping screws hold the guard, BUT three holes in the metal case seem to be drilled too big, which allows the screw to rotate freely (at least they were easy to remove) SOLUTION to the problem 3) Remove the three large self-tapping screws from the utility cabinet and use them to reassemble the construction if necessary ). The blade assembly is plastic and has NO dowels. With little wear it spins freely and needs to be filled with epoxy and re-drilled. Sommer: This is NOT a great design and will wear out quickly as the friction of the metal and plastic is the only thing holding the blade assembly on the shaft. The non-working screws holding the protective cover together were an annoyance but not a safety issue. The plug can be removed with a hammer without special tools and with little effort, so it is not an obstacle. However, given the price of this fan, I was expecting better design and build quality.
