Overall I like this armrest clip but I really think a sofa armrest should be pretty flat and square/rectangular. I really don't see that well with a large sofa armrest that's mostly upholstered. My sofa/armrest is about 5.25 inches wide. It's pretty stable, but I think if I don't center something properly, it can easily slip to the side and spill the contents of my cup onto the side. I only plan on using it to put coffee cups or drinking mugs in it so it does what I want it to do. If you're looking for something really durable, especially one with a non-flat sofa arm, I don't think this will work for you. .
