Review on CURT 56016: Custom 4-Pin Trailer πŸš— Wiring Harness for Mazda 2 Hatchback, 5, CX-9 by John Jones

Great for 2011 CX-9

The connectors on this unit are perfect for my 2011 CX-9. The only thing that was required was cutting the 12v power line for the passenger side accessory outlet, which is a much better option than running wires from the engine bay to the battery. I had to remove the panels. On the CX-9, the side panels are held in place by about 10 weight hooks that are bolted on. Remove them with a 10mm head. Remove the trunk and skid plate along the underside of the sunroof. I installed the unit on the driver's side, used a self-tapping sheet metal screw for the ground, and routed the battery cable to the 12v socket on the passenger's side. Double sided tape is useless, either buy 3M tape for external use or I just stick it in the place where it stayed in place (there is a small area filled with foam, I have it half pressed to keep it from bouncing). .) For socket 12, cut the hot wire and connect a new cable using one of the butt connectors provided. Be sure to pull the fuse under the hood to avoid a short circuit. It is listed as "RR exit". You need another butt connector, they give you 2, but you need 3 to use the fuse that comes with it. Do not drive without a fuse, a short in the trailer wiring can damage your car's electronics. I left the trailer spade in the socket area so when I put everything back together I just open the socket compartment and pull the cable out. This keeps it clean and dry until needed. Just bring it to the trailer and close the door, it won't damage the cable. I've used this method on 3 cars (all hatchbacks) over the years and never had a problem.
