Review on BLACK DECKER BDEMS600 Detail Sander by Malik Munns

bad workmanship best in Sanders

This little sander worked great for an hour. It's easy to hold and the finger attachment makes it easy to sand hard-to-reach areas. Unfortunately the same finger attachment fell apart on first use. The tip of the grinding wheel is held in place by a screw. To install the finger cap, you must remove the tip and replace it with the finger cap. The parts around the screw on the handpiece/nozzle are made of plastic, as are the parts around the threaded insert on the base. The heat generated during use literally melted the plastic holding the screw in place. Once this happens, not only does the fingertip fall off, but the base also gets damaged, no longer supporting the original tip and rendering the entire grinder unusable. I figured maybe it was an accident with the first one I bought, or I just applied too much pressure or used it for too long (which means I used it for less than an hour at times), so I did exchanged him. to replace, only for the second to fail as well. With the second, I tried very hard to maintain a very light pressure and only use it for very short periods of time, allowing it to cool between uses, to no avail. Unfortunately, the presence of plastic parts around the screw and insert is a fatal flaw. The heat generated during use is simply too much for plastic. In the first case, the molten plastic shattered at both the tip and base, causing the entire fingertip to fall off. The second time around, the plastic surrounding the threaded metal insert melted just enough to loosen the insert, leaving the pen holder no longer securely locked in the base (the insert simply rotated in the base and no longer held the screw). ). Since the insert was no longer fixed, the finger cap could not be removed. Without counter pressure, the thread insert simply turned and the screw could not be unscrewed. The fingertip was too loose to use, but couldn't be removed to replace it with the original tip (and since the insert was no longer secure, I'm not sure the tip would have worked properly anyway). I can't confirm how this would work if you never used the fingertip and left the original tip in place, but since the tip attaches in the same way/place as the tip, I suspect you do will achieve a similar result Regardless of whether . I do not recommend buying this product.
