I have owned a 2008 Tahoe for about 6 years. About 3 or 4 years ago after a cold winter night I tried to open the tailgate and it froze. I pulled on it to raise it up and from that day on the automatic raise/close never worked again but the gate worked manually. My wife hated it and so did I. Eventually, about a week ago, the deadbolt failed and the gate would not even close manually and lock. Eventually I got fed up and after reading these reviews with skepticism I ordered this bar. After doing a little YouTube searching on how to remove the interior panels and remove the old latch, I figured it wouldn't be hard to do it yourself. It took about 45 minutes to disassemble and remove the old latch, which requires a T30 Torx screwdriver or Allen head. FOLLOW the installation instructions. Circle the 3 existing mounting screws before removing the old one to ensure the new one is properly aligned. Do not plug it in until everything is installed and ready to use. The connection is the last thing I checked before reinstalling the fairing. This lock worked immediately without any problems. It's only been 1 day but I'll update this review later if there are any issues and how long it's been taking so far so good. Plus. He also fixed the auto open/close tailgate which was great. win win!
