My laptop no longer charges even without a hub. I don't know whether my PowerPort Atom PD 4 Anker or this Satechi -Hub was to blame, but I got a notification on my OSX that basically said too many USB devices were using power, so I unplugged a USB port from the hub, but then I found that my battery was dead and stopped charging. At first I thought it was just a hub so I plugged the power adapter directly into my Macbook Pro. No cubes. Then I plugged in my OEM unit and no charge. As the battery kept getting drained, I tried resetting strollers, NVRAM etc. Nothing. However the ports still worked. I don't know if it was a hub, an Anker PowerPort Atom PD 4 or a combination but I'll give both 1 star as a warning to all who have the same set consider up. Edit 9/25/20: After 2 repairs from Apple, it crashed again the 3rd time dying with the message: USB devices disabled. Turn off the device that is using too much power to turn USB devices back on. The common denominator is this hub. I'll see if Apple fixes the issue again, but these hubs could break.
