Don't listen to negative reviews!

I didn't buy this because of all the negative reviews but I'm glad I did anyway. First of all, this is not a carnival machine for making cotton candy. If that's what you're looking for - buy one for a few hundred dollars! The big error problem is operator error. If you try to stick the wand vertically in the car and roll it around the heating element like the guy at the carnival/carnival/circus does, you'll burn your candy, you won't get much and you'll be disappointed. The key is to hold the wand horizontally about 2-3 inches above the heating element across the hole when you start to see the mesh shape. Move the wand to each side to grab and spin the web first. Once you've grabbed each side of the web, keep twisting the wand in your hand. The faster you spin, the thicker the candy gets, resulting in a low yield. If it's too slow, the web will fly all over the place. steady pace to build high volume. I first let the device heat up for 15 minutes and, as recommended, only used 2 candies at a time. 2 candies literally take about 2 minutes or less to form into cotton. Turn off the machine, let it stop, add two more candies and continue. For the candies in my picture, I used 10 candies and it took about 10 minutes. If that's too long for you, just buy ready-made cotton candy. I haven't bothered with flossing because the manufacturer says not all floss will fit the machine and he only recommends using Nostalgia thread. But candy works great! I tried root beer kegs. But initially they turned into a mini cotton candy string, so I broke the cotton candy in half and tried again. it worked great! The shape of the lifebuoys makes the candy melt very well and form a net. We haven't tried Jolly Ranchers yet, but I think if you're having trouble with them, break them down into smaller pieces as the instructions recommend. It was easy to clean. Knock off the accumulated candy ring and use very hot water to melt the rest. It was a bit difficult to remove the heating element for washing as it got stuck in the candy after it had cooled. But we used about 40 candies in the car in the hour we used it before washing. I highly recommend this device, the family loved it!
