Review on Crucial PC3 8500 SODIMM 204 Pin Memory by Eric Alcantara

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Mid 2009 MacBookPro - sluggish. Adding RAM+SDD is amazing

MBPro has been running for 5 years now. Performance became sluggish, especially at Mavericks. Apple's genius suggested upgrading key components to 8GB of RAM and an SDD. These components are no longer prohibitively expensive and easy to install. Since Apple no longer offers them for MBP 2009, I checked and found the best price for Revain. Arrived the next day. Crucial 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3 1066 MT/s Kit (PC3-8500) CL7 SODIMM 204-pin Mac Memory CT2K4G3S1067M Crucial M500 240GB SATA 2.5" Internal 7mm SSD CT240M500SSD1 Results: RAM upgrade from 4GB carried out on 8 GB The loading time has not improved, but the speed of opening multiple applications has improved significantly. However, the addition of RAM + SDD was a game changer. Amazing performance improvement during startup time, shutdown time and all operations. Comparative MBPro stats: Before (4GB memory): Boot time to login screen - 0:57 Time to email login window - 2:22 After (8GB memory, HDD): Shut down - 0:33 Load time to login screen – 1:00 Mail Login Window Load Time - 2:20 After (8GB Storage, SSD): Shutdown - 0:16 Login Screen Load Time - 0:16 Mail Login Window Load Time - 0:30 As an added bonus got I found out that my old 2010 4GB iMac had two empty slots. I installed 2 old 2GB SIMMs from my MBPro into my 2010 iMac. Both machines are now upgraded to 8GB of RAM with the purchase of just one 8GB upgrade kit. MBPro price: <$80 for 8GB RAM and $120 for 240GB SSD. Installation: < 30 minutes (See great videos from OWC on Youtube). Time Capsule: 2 hours siMac Price Paid: $0 for additional 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB SIMMs removed/replaced with MBPro) Install: 10 minutes Noticeable performance gain on both machines.
